WEEK ONE
Another One Bites the Dust (Jensen Murphy, Ghost for Hire #2)—Chris Marie Green (November 4, Roc)
I was an ordinary eighties California girl, dead before my time, until psychic Amanda Lee Minter pulled me out of the time loop where I was reliving my death over and over. Now I’m Jensen Murphy, Ghost for Hire. I decided to put my spooky talents to use in helping Amanda Lee track down bad guys and killers (including my own). It’s taken time to figure out exactly how that will work (our first case was definitely a learning experience for all involved), so when a young woman asks Amanda Lee for help convincing her best friend to leave a dangerously hot-tempered boyfriend, I’m ready and willing to use our collective powers on her behalf. But some people are dangerous not only to the living, especially when there are darker forces involved.
In the Beginning: A Short Story Prequel to the novel Rivers—Michael Farris Smith (November 4, Simon & Schuster/Simon 451)
A series of catastrophic hurricanes along the Gulf Coast prompts the government to institute “The Line,” a boundary between the coastal region and the rest of the country, effectively creating a lawless no-man’s land without electricity, resources, or basic services. Those left behind include Aggie, a snake-handling preacher with a questionable past; Bub and Ava, who live in a FEMA trailer held down by cinderblocks; and Cohen, who refuses to evacuate and leave behind the graves of his late wife and child. As all four struggle to survive below The Line, their stories intersect with violent and unexpected consequences. (Digital)
Killer Instinct (The Naturals #2)—Jennifer Lynn Barnes (November 4, Disney-Hyperion)

After barely escaping a confrontation with an unbalanced killer obsessed with her mother’s murder, Cassie hopes she and the rest of the team can stick to solving cold cases from a distance. When victims of a brutal new serial killer start turning up, the Naturals are pulled into an active case that strikes too close to home: the killer is a perfect copycat of Dean’s incarcerated father, a man he’d do anything to forget. Forced deeper into a murderer’s psyche than ever before, will the Naturals be able to outsmart the enigmatic killer’s brutal mind games before this copycat twists them into his web for good?

Feeling sorely betrayed, Annith decides to strike out on her own. She has spent her whole life training to be an assassin. Just because the convent has changed its mind doesn’t mean she has.
Path of Needles—Alison Littlewood (November 4, Jo Fletcher)
Young Adult. Alice Hyland is an expert on fairy tales and the natural choice for Police Constable Cate Corbin to consult when a dead girl is found in the woods dressed up as Snow White. Especially when the girl’s grieving mother receives a parcel containing a glass bottle of blood stoppered with the dead girl’s toe. Cate’s boss, Detective Superintendent Heath, isn’t convinced of the connection to folklore until a second girl is found, this time dressed as Red Riding Hood and with claw marks gouged into her flesh. A series of uncanny events seem to be pointing her in the right direction, but she’s not the only one noticing; By the time a third girl is found, Heath begins to wonder if their fairy tale expert knows too much, and Alice finds herself becoming a suspect. Her determination to solve the mystery herself and prove her innocence may lead her somewhere she can’t return from. (U.S.)
Reap the Wind (Cassandra Palmer #7)—Karen Chance (November 4, Signet)
You’d think that being Chief Seer for the supernatural world would come with a few perks. Cassie Palmer has learned being Pythia doesn’t mean you don’t have to do things the hard way. That’s why she finds herself on a rescue mission skipping through time. Rescuing her friend John Pritkin should have been an in and out kind of deal, but with the near-immortal mage’s soul lost in time, Cassie has to hunt for it through the ages, with Pritkin’s demon dad in tow. He’s the only one who can reverse Pritkin’s curse. With the guardians of the time-line dead set on stopping anyone from mucking about, Cassie will have to figure out how to get her friend back without ruffling too many feathers, or causing a world-ending paradox or two.

The Pretender’s Gambit (Rogue Angel #51)—Alex Archer (November 4, Gold Eagle)
For archaeologist and TV host Annja Creed, a late-night phone call from the NYPD means one thing: there’s been a murder and the police need her expertise. The only link between a dead body and the killer is a small elephant of white jade. Once belonging to Catherine the Great of Russia, the elephant was key in a risky political gambit all those years ago. There is another story attached to the artifact, a rumor of an ancient hidden treasure. For a cruelly ambitious media mogul with a penchant for tomb-raiding, the elephant is nothing short of priceless. Annja must make her move quickly, traveling across several continents with only the assistance of her extraordinary sword, purportedly the same sword wielded by Joan of Arc, and a mysterious temple monk.
